Target Learners

     The learners for this project are grade 3 to grade 8 English Language Learners (ELLs) from a variety of backgrounds. They are primarily born in a foreign country and have entered under one of the following categories: immigrant, refugee, fee-paying international student. They may have had some literacy instruction in a foreign language, but moved to Canada in the last few years and have had recent literacy instruction in English. Their English level will vary from A2.1 to B1.2 according to the Common Framework of Reference (CFR) or an intermediate to advanced proficiency in English, respectively. They receive 1-2 EALpull-out periods per week so this project could span a month.
